Thanks for stopping in. I’m Jessica a runner and mother from Janesville, Wisconsin. My story isn’t like that of a lot of other athletes. I didn’t run track or cross country in high school, in fact I didn’t play any high school sports. I did love my gym class when we weren’t swimming. I knew I was always good at running but never had that push to pursue it any further than gy
m class. In middle school I played sports (soccer and basketball) but once I got to high school, insecurities took over.
Shortly after college I discovered running. I struggled a bit in the beginning and ran into injuries because I was a bit overenthusiastic. I remember the moment that I decided I wanted to “go big or go home.” I wanted to improve my running, and in order to do that I had to be dedicated. From that point on, I made sure to put forth more into my running. I became more focused and eventually I improved.
I started running in late 2011. By 2012 I ran my first half marathon, 50k and full marathon. Running has become a HUGE part of who I am. Dare I say, running defines me.
In those years I met some really amazing, epic people who inspired and pushed me to test my limits. I fell in love with the trails and ultra marathons.
Year to date, I’ve run one 100 miler, eight 50 milers, countless 50k training runs and races, and 4 marathons. Of course I’ve run 5ks and 10ks but distance running is my jam.
Speaking of jam, I enjoy vegetables! A lot. I’ve been vegan since the end of 2011. It has been the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. Not only did I learn to cook in the process but I’ve also tried foods that I would have never even looked at before.
When I’m not running, I’m working. I’m a notorious over-scheduler. I’m currently juggling 3 jobs but at most I’ve had 4. I like to keep busy but sometimes things get unbalanced. 2 of my current 3 jobs are photography jobs. Seasonally, I photograph high school seniors throughout Northern Illinois and assist a photographer in Beloit, Wisconsin. Even though I find myself outside of my comfort zone with photography occasionally I’ve loved every minute of the journey.
